Who I am

The engineer behind Seismic Technology.

Mick Garlick, Seismic Technology

I’m Mick Garlick. I help organisations make valuable changes to fragile or poorly understood software, combining AI-assisted engineering with experienced human review, practical testing and accountable judgement.

When you contact Seismic Technology, you deal directly with me. I investigate the system, explain the risks and remain responsible for the recommendations and engineering decisions.

Personal accountability

A business name without a layer between you and the engineer

Seismic Technology is the company through which I have delivered contracting work and publish Dragon Lords. The investigation and delivery remain personal.

I use AI to help trace behaviour, investigate large codebases, draft documentation and accelerate controlled changes. It does not replace engineering judgement. I review the work, decide what evidence is sufficient and remain accountable for what I recommend.

Source-code access, confidentiality, data handling and permitted AI tools are agreed before work begins. The initial investigation does not require live production access.

Relevant experience

Experience with systems that could not simply be replaced

Across these client engagements I worked in multidisciplinary teams with business analysts, stakeholders and other developers, often coordinating with external suppliers. The later Specsavers and Virgin Media engagements used agile delivery.

01

Live commercial platforms

At Specsavers, while contracted through BJSS, I spent three and a half years maintaining and extending international Drupal and Symfony platforms. I became a subject matter expert for two important subsystems, gave presentations on those areas and led high-risk work in them. At Virgin Media, under a contract arranged through Hayes, I spent two and a half years contributing as part of an agile team maintaining, extending and migrating legacy PHP applications.

02

Undocumented integrations

During six years at Arcadia through Retail Business Solutions, I led middleware design and live implementation, then recruited, trained and built tools for the technical implementation team delivering the early rollout. During a fifteen-month Dunelm engagement through Paul Mason Consulting, I recovered missing interface information, wrote Retail-J XML middleware for a new EPOS system and supported the test team.

03

Current, inspectable practice

The Dragon Lords case study shows how I now combine AI assistance, staged upgrades, tests and human review. It is a Seismic Technology product published on Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
